Aroma

The smell of incense has been used in the Christian church for millennia. While this may make things a little too formal in some traditions, it remains synonymous with others. Almost every religion in the world utilizes aroma to aid in prayer and meditation. Aromas can draw in focus, shift the space and help to enhance a worshipper’s experience by employing an oft forgotten sense.

Don’t think the addition of incense is the only scent that can be added to a space; almost anything can help to enhance the worship experience.

Think about someone preaching on hunger while the space has been setup with several bread machines. The smell of fresh baked bread, a staple of all cultures, is a comforting one; but also brings the message to life. Maybe after the service the parishioners then go distribute the fresh bounty to local individuals in need. The scent helps everyone to connect and creates a deeper impact.
